The back room at Coffee on Raiford - so many small groups meet there. Right out back is "Activate Alley" scene of high school building art, mini-community events with free hot dogs, cornhole, etc. Also The Vault by Hatchet Brewing, in a former bank downtown -- long tables for continuing conversations. We're activating Art Out Loud, a pocket park with sculpture, whisper benches - with a mini concert and community food on Aug. 2 - Tommy Thunderfoot and the Accelerators. Check out our Activate Selma NC Facebook page or website. We are a grassroots group meeting every Wed. morning at 9 am, but we go to a different location each time. Tomorrow's meeting is in Vick Park, another pocket park, and Clair Groves with Creature Curiosities is bringing a blue-tongue skink, potbelly pig, red-footed tortoise, and guinea pig! Last week we met in a community garden at Selma Baptist that provides food for food banks and will soon have a Little Free Library and beehives. On Aug. 6 we meet at a county ride provider's maintenance facility - JCATS/QuickRide. Moving around gets people out of their silos to promote creative thinking and problem solving, AND it helps activate new third places for different folks who think "there's nothing to do in Selma." A running club and a gardening club now meet at the Vault. Our motto is "we don't complain, we take action. https://www.ourstate.com/saving-selma/ I look forward to reading your posts!
I love this! Makes me think about the third places I'm discovering where I live in Selma NC.
I love Selma and JoCo! Tell me the third places you have found!
